10 of the most common questions, answered

Q: What is the nature of the business?
A: X-Press Legal Services provides solicitors and other conveyancing professionals with specialist property searches and reports which are an essential part of the property-buying process in the UK. Every year, we deliver almost 400,000 searches and reports to the conveyancing sector, trusted by more than 500 Solicitor practices nationwide.

Q: Do I need a legal background?
A: No – your clients will be the legal professionals. Our existing network of Franchisees come from all walks of life, and a diverse range of backgrounds and former careers – so no previous experience of the property search or conveyancing sector is necessary.

Q: What skills do I need?
A: Our Franchisees come from many different career backgrounds, but as the nature of the reports we prepare for clients are legal documents, accuracy and attention to detail is vital. You must also be an excellent communicator to enable you to build a strong client base and maintain long and lasting relationships.

Q: Is IT important?
A: Absolutely! Your ability to embrace IT and new technology is critical. The property search and conveyancing sector has changed dramatically in recent years thanks to the advancement in IT and new technology. X-Press Legal Services has embraced this innovation by investing heavily in our supporting IT systems. As such, you need to be comfortable using our IT systems, like SMWeb and ICOS, to enable you to deliver flexible, transparent conveyancing services for your clients.

Q: Can I run the business from home?
A: Yes, absolutely! The business can be run from home, with minimal overheads. However, in time as the business grows, you may need to employ staff and an office base may be preferable.

Q: What equipment do I need?
A: You’ll need to provide your own transport along with a mobile phone and office facility.  As part of your Franchise package, you will be supplied with a comprehensive IT, office, broadband and stationery package. At all times, you will have access to our dedicated IT team who can provide support remotely.

Q: What territory will I be responsible for?
A: Territories are aligned to Local Authority areas throughout England & Wales. Franchisees are awarded exclusive rights to an area with identifiable potential, which we finalise on an individual basis, taking into account local demographics. Territories currently available include: Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, East Riding Yorkshire, Shropshire, East London, Surrey, Kent, and Dorset.

Q: What is the length of the Franchise agreement?
A: You can choose the length of your initial Franchise agreement to be either five or ten years, with renewal options at a later date. The majority of our existing network elected for a 10-year licence, with almost half of our Franchisees having been with us since year one.

Q: What training do you provide?
A: Every new Franchisee embarks on our intensive 3-week induction training programme covering all aspects of X-Press Legal Services and the regulated search process. Training takes place at our Warrington Head Office, and is complemented with the X-Press Franchise Operations Manual which will become your ‘go to’ source of reference. And the Head Office team is always just a phone call away if you struggle to find the answer.

Q: Once I’ve completed my training, am I left to fend for myself?
A: Definitely not! We believe we are all in this together, and as part of a broader network we all support each other. You have access to the Head Office support team at all times. The initial induction training programme is backed-up by an ongoing support programme which includes sales support, a mentoring scheme and the X-Press Academy, run by a leading Business Development Coach.
