Sheer Commitment
When Linda Mannion, franchisee for the South Gloucester, Wiltshire – North , East & West area, set off for her recent holiday in Denver she never imagined the extent of her return journey home.
Linda was one of the hundreds of thousands of passengers stranded aboard due to the disruption caused by the recent Icelandic volcanic ash cloud. She was due to fly back to England on the Thursday but due to the flight restrictions she was delayed in returning to the UK until the following Wednesday.
Linda left Denver at lunchtime on the Monday and flew to Frankfurt only to find that all flights to UK were cancelled. Worried about the impact on her business and letting her clients down Linda contacted her staff and franchisor to arrange for extra cover, hired a car and set about finding a way to return to England.
She drove from Frankfurt to Calais for 5 hours straight, where she managed to board a ferry which docked at Dover at 2.30am on the Tuesday. From Dover Linda took the train to Victoria, a bus to Paddington, another train to Heathrow where she collected her car and was back in her office for 9am on the Wednesday to restart business as usual.
