Eco-Build

John Healey, Housing Minster is supporting the UK’s largest eco-home building programme. Four areas across the UK will share a grant of £60 million in order to build over 600 new green homes, with a third being affordable homes. This pioneering construction could also create and support up to 2,000 local jobs.

The new eco-towns will be designed, planned and built to the word leading environmental standards. The grant will not only introduce greener living to people who want to live in the eco-towns but will also introduce greener living to the local communities near by.

The grant is a massive boost for the councils driving forward the innovate planning for the build before seeking planning permission and local public approval.

Housing Minister John Healey commented: "Last year I gave the go-ahead to the first wave of world-leading eco-towns that will set the global standard for green living while helping tackle climate change and the shortage of affordable homes. Today I'm backing them with £60m to help get these projects off the ground. This is the start of the country's biggest ever eco-home building programme. As a first step, 600 will be built in these four areas and by 2016 there will be a total of 10,000 new eco homes in these four pioneering areas.“
