Quality questioned in Home information packs
The Law Society has issued a warning after the government alledged that some HIP providers are putting the wrong or poor quality documents in their packs.
On its website The Law Society gave information of a “media campaign aimed at consumers to reinforce the message that it is best to use a solicitor when creating a HIP.” It is thought that this is designed to run alongside a press advertising campaign by Communities and Local Government (CLG) focusing on sellers' legal obligations to provide HIPs.
According to it’s website the “Society will target consumer and regional media (prime targets) to reach sellers who might be thinking of using a non-solicitor HIP provider, to inform them of the benefits of using a solicitor to ensure that their HIP is compliant with the conveyancing process.”
The move supports the position taken by X-Press Legal Services that increasingly solicitors will handle the compilation of HIPS.
