Updated Lending List Released
The council of mortgage lenders have released an updated schedule listing which lenders accept personal searches and which firms also require the search company to be registered under the Search Code. This information is taken from the CML Lenders’ Handbook.
In recent weeks, the Newbury Building Society has amended its Part 2 to accept personal searches where the search firm is also registered under the Code. X-Press Legal Services is fully compliant with the Property Codes Compliance Board’s Search Code.
At present, 99 lenders will accept personal searches and 43 also require the firm to be registered under the Code. As lenders can amend their instructions under the Handbook at any time the list continues to evolve. However 98 lenders out of the top 100 lenders in the UK accept a personal search.
Halifax (No.1 lender) granted £210billion against property in 2007 (the majority of lending was made possible by a personal search) A reflection of the impact of the personal search market is that out of the top 30 lenders 29 accept a personal search and these companies account for over 90% of all lending.
